Blanc 2008: P116. - Portrait of a 29-year-old calligrapher
Support and dimensions unknown
Salomon Savery created an engraving after this painting by Samuel van Hoogstraten, as stated on the print (Hollstein Dutch & Flemish 1949-2010, vol. 24, p. 50, no. 116).
The inscription ‘S. v. Hoogstraten fecit’ can indicate that the print was not made by Samuel van Hoogstraten, but after a painting or drawing by him. Though the sitter is sometimes identified as Theodore Blévet, this is unlikely, as Blévet was 29 in the year Samuel van Hoogstraten was born (Stephanie Dickey and Michiel Roscam Abbing, in correspondence with the RKD, 6 August 2024).
